Reversing Type 2 Diabetes with Optifast?

Writer's picture: John KimJohn Kim

During my integrative/functional/lifestyle medicine private practice, and endocrinologist referred a patient who needed more than 300 units of insulin every day to control his Type 2 diabetes. Endocrinologist was alarmed at the insulin resistance (needing more and more insulin) and was hoping that I can be of assistance to the patient.

We used Optifast transitions program to assist the patient to lose more than 100 pounds and patient was able to stop his insulin all together.

In my humble opinion, there is no ONE way to support patients with weight issues - it would be best if there would be multiple ways to provide the patients with support:

  • Surgery

  • Medical Approach - Ozempic or other GLP-1 medications

  • Low Carb, Moderate Protein, Moderate Fat Ketosis

  • Low Carb, Low Protein, Low Fat Green Juice Ketosis

  • Optifast

  • Healthy Lifestyle (optimizing food choices)
